Hotel Guestroom Flooring Design Trends in 2023
Flooring in a hotel guestroom occupies a large surface area, which makes it a significant element in a guestroom’s design. Since it surrounds them from the first step, flooring is often the first thing guests notice when they enter a hotel room. As a product category, flooring is very dynamic, with styles, materials, shapes, and sizes all evolving from year-to-year. Keeping a finger on the pulse of this high-impact, highly dynamic product is important for hotel owners and operators.
In this post, you will learn which trends in guestroom flooring are most relevant now as you begin to plan your next hotel project.
Natural Colors & Textures
Beige, gray, and white hues are becoming increasingly popular in hotel guestroom flooring as they create a tranquil atmosphere and provide a base for other elements to stand out. Additionally, two-tone color combinations such as gray and white, beige and black, and blue and brown are gaining traction in guestroom flooring as they add an attractive visual element.
Brown is making a re-emergence. Grey has dominated the neutral palette for some time now, but the warm brown in rich colors plays well with other bold colors.
Textured floorings such as cork, wood, and stone are also trending. They can add depth and interest to the room, as can patterned flooring with geometric shapes, herringbone, chevron, and checkerboard. In addition, tile is a great way to introduce stylish and fresh touches.
Finally, waterproof floorings such as luxury vinyl tile (LVT) or laminate are a practical and stylish option for guestroom flooring as they are easier to clean and maintain.
Maximalism & Curves
Maximalism is a trend that was exciting to see in 2022. It consists of layering, collections, mixing old and new, bold colors, and the concept of “more is more.” We will still see maximalism play a role in 2023.
Curves are here to stay. We saw them come into residential design during the pandemic: soft lines and elegant curves created spaces of comfort during hard times. They lend a touch of sophistication, movement, and fluidity to spaces.
LVT/ERT & Broadloom Carpet
Depending on the hotel’s location, LVT/ERT (Enhanced Resilient Tile) can be an excellent choice for guestrooms in warmer climates as it is easy to keep clean. LVT/ERT with either inset carpets or area rugs keeps growing in popularity.
Broadloom carpet is still trendy because it adds layers of texture, pattern, and color to the guestroom design. Carpet is also popular in cooler climates, providing comfort and warmth to the guestroom.
Tile Trends
Square ceramic and porcelain tiles are back! 12” x 12” or 24” x 24” sizes are very popular in guestrooms. In addition, with overall growth in their demand, flooring tiles and related offerings are also now available in new sizes, such as 15” x 30” and even 30” x 30.”
Tile technology has come a long way in just the past few years, making porcelain tile look convincingly like natural stone for a fraction of the price with none of the maintenance. In fact, porcelain tiles that look like natural stones are becoming prevalent, replacing the look of fabric or traditional solids.
Tile products are getting more sustainable, as well. Just last year, the first carbon-neutral tile series in the US was launched, making it easier than ever to choose environmentally friendly products.
