Hospitality Flooring Trends

In many ways, the design of any hotel starts with flooring. Every interior has floors, after all.

We caught up with a few ID Studio designers to find out more about the latest design trends in hospitality flooring.

Biophilic Design

Nature and “biophilia” continues to have a strong influence in hospitality design overall, promoting relaxation and wellness for guests. Now more than ever before, flooring manufacturers are offering end of use recycling programs and developing ways to use recycled materials in their products.

Carpet Comforts

As certain markets demand that hotels evoke more of a “home away from home” atmosphere, use of carpet is on the rise. Area rugs placed in the lobby and guest rooms provide a warm, inviting touch. Durability and visual appeal are key; many brands favor handmade rugs or rugs that look handmade.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

A durable and easy-to-clean hard surface option, luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is taking hospitality by storm. The tile eliminates grout lines, offering a clean, refined look. LVT works best as a carpet alternative, particularly in warmer climates with a lot of humidity. With the growing popularity of LVT, manufacturers are designing and producing more options for use, including different textures to choose from.

Flooring Technology

Over the past few years, technology has been rapidly moving forward in the flooring industry. Recent flooring technology advancements have helped manufacturers produce carpet tile designed specifically for the hospitality market with high resolution printed patterns.

Pattern and Color

These days, hotel interiors aren’t shying away from pops of color. In carpet, warm grays and cool blues are often used as neutral shades with medium scale patterns (such as diagonal and herringbone) showing up in guest room areas. For LVT, wood grains, tone on tone, matte finishes, and wide planks add warmth and sophistication to perpetuate the feeling of being at home.

Staying up to date with trends is a big part of ensuring guests are happy and comfortable, but keep in mind flooring is far more difficult to replace than other furnishings. So whether you prefer carpet tile or wood grain LVT, be sure to select a flooring option that’s timeless with a twist.
