On April 30-May 2, the Choice Hotels Annual Convention saw a gathering of over 5,000 attendees. The three-day event, held at the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, paid tribute to its theme (Stand Out) by celebrating 80 years in business and presenting a clear vision for the future of the company.
In the opening session, Pat Pacious, president and chief executive officer of Choice Hotels, celebrated successful actions Choice has taken in the last eight decades, such as advancing its software development expertise, growing its extended-stay and upscale portfolio, and strengthening its midscale presence.
Other convention “stand-outs” include:
Procurement is an Investment
When planning for a hotel project, it may be tempting to cut corners and reduce costs where possible, but several attendees voiced dissatisfaction that good service and the cheapest price don’t necessarily go hand in hand. With bargain procurement, you risk engaging an “order taker” with poor service and ending up with low-quality FF&E products that won’t withstand regular guest use. Alternatively, when you hire a professional procurement consultant, you will gain access to in-depth services designed to meet your needs.
Brand Refresh for Midscale Segment
Choice Hotels unveiled three new logos for its midscale brands. New standards will evolve that include updated signage and movement toward a more prototypical environment. Choice franchisees who are building, renovating, and completing PIPs should keep in mind the need for open projects to comply with these new brand requirements.
Always Looking Forward
With brand changes and continuous advancement in hotel technology, Choice Hotels is in expansion mode. Instead of adding to its portfolio, however, the company is looking inward and investing in its existing segments (economy, extended-stay, midscale, and upscale) to drive market share and capitalize on current growth.
