The Asian American Hotel Owners Association Annual Convention & Tradeshow is one of the largest hospitality gatherings in the country. This year, AAHOA is celebrating 30 years since its founding, and with an estimated 7,000 people in attendance, the annual convention was more significant than ever.
The event, held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, CA, was a destination for informed hoteliers and hospitality industry professionals to meet and discuss the future. These are our top takeaways from AAHOA 2019:
Seeking the “It” Factor
Many hoteliers are looking to see how they can differentiate from similar hotels. The focus in 2019 and beyond is bringing more into properties with features such as local immersion or custom design elements to stand out from others and create an unforgettable guest experience.
Midscale is Seeing Traction
The midscale space is gaining ground in the market as plans for millennial-focused midscale brands like Tru by Hilton (launched in 2016), and IHG’s avid® hotels (launched in 2017) are beginning to come to fruition. Bringing a fresh, fun perspective to the affordability-driven segment is paying off for these particular brands, as they continue to evolve and multiply.
Meeting with hoteliers and industry professionals at the Innvision Hospitality booth during AAHOA 2019.
While the midscale boom and the need for differentiation were our main observations from the convention, they weren’t the only insights gathered.
The majority of attendees who visited our booth and had conversations with our team indicated they prefer projects to have design and procurement from one source. We left AAHOA 2019 with a renewed focus on providing hoteliers with comprehensive FF&E procurement and design solutions to meet every requirement, from following brand standards to achieving their individual vision.
